Another Lovely Teenage Portrait Shoot

As I've been saying for a while now, this is my current favourite age group. Although I still love children of all ages I just feel most comfortable working with older children and really want to encourage more families to have their older children photographed. This to me is just as important an age as the earlier years as now they are actually leaving childhood behind and becoming fully fledged adults. Its a real milestone in their growing up. I had photographs taken at the same time of my life and I cherish them, although mine were much more traditional in nature.

As per usual we discussed before hand the type of portraits we could create. This young lady also plays guitar so of course I had to do some shots with it. Including such props helps them to be themselves and enables me to capture them just playing (or pretending to play) which means they can be very comfortable and not worrying about the camera or how they look.

I love the way the light is falling on her face in the portrait below. This has a lovely mood about it which is exactly what I had aimed to capture.

We also got the chance to use some of the dresses in my collection. I love it when I can utilise the clothes I've been accumulating and it gives me reason to keep searching for more. This is a very fun part of my job. I am building up quite the collection which I make available to all my clients. During the consultation we take a look through to see if there is anything we'd like to use.

Every teenager who've come to me have loved their session and that makes me so happy. I'm very proud that I can create something for this age group that they can be proud of themselves, particularly since my own teenage daughter sees me as the most uncool parent on the planet. Actually, that's not entirely true, I think she might see her dad as the most uncool parent and I'm probably second on that list.

As always, if you wish to find out more you can call me on 01455 611069 or you can reach me through the following links:

I hope to be sharing many more teenage shoots in 2018.

I am Still Me: A Story about a Transgender Boy

Meet Leo. Leo is 15 and currently going through an epic transformation that has momentarily turned the lives of himself and those around him upside down. A mum who once had the daughter she always longed for is now coping with the realisation that she will be living the rest of her life with a son instead. When your child is born you have certain expectations of the typical life they will lead but most of us know and accept that it won't necessarily end up the way we imagine. Not every person wants to marry, have kids or be involved with the opposite sex. Most of us have come to accept this and can adjust to whatever comes our way relatively easily. But few of us have expected to have to deal with a change in sex. Its not that we've hoped it won't happen, but just that it never occurred to us that it might. This is a new adjustment that we as a society are being presented with today, just like so many others that have come before.

More Newborn Portraits of a Lovely Baby Girl

I am really loving everything about creating newborn portraits.  For a start, I usually get a good cuddle at some point during the portrait session and/or the viewing.  It has been wonderful holding such tiny babies again (my baby is nearly 10 years old now).

I also enjoy the challenge of getting the pose above, baby propped on elbows.  I think it is such a cute pose that seems impossible to achieve.  But with a little patience I've been able to get the pose every time I've tried (of course I've probably just jinxed myself now).  I can't stress enough though, that this pose is really only achievable in about the first 2 weeks.  The little girl in these images is only 8 days old.  The older they get the lighter they sleep which makes it difficult to keep them asleep while we pose them and more difficult to move them when we want to try different setups.

Probably the most enjoyable aspect of my work lately is when I am able to create something that I feel looks like…

5 Reasons you Should Consider Getting a Professional Headshot

Headshots, or profile pictures are becoming a requirement of so many tools we regularly use or reference today. From Facebook to Linked In, Instagram to Twitter and often any website that represents a company for which you work or own will have a place to include a photograph that is meant to show your audience who you are. And how you present yourself there will tell your audience so much about you.

1. A profile picture is your first opportunity for your audience to see you. Its often the first impression you make and we all know you only have one chance at a first impression. A professional photographer has the skills to show you in the best, most suitable way to give a great first impression.

(These headshots were created for recruitment firm Optima UK who asked to have their logo placed behind them. I think it makes these headshots quite eye catching and they should do their job well.)

2. Using a professional to create your headshot will convey your professionalism to your audience.…

Portraits Even a Teenager Boy Loves

Finally I've had the opportunity to photograph a young man in my studio again. And funnily enough this was the second time that week which is absolutely superb. In both cases these young men were just as enthusiastic to be involved as I was, which is something I don't often get when I'm working with very young children, my usual subjects. With young children I find my energy in their cuteness. But with young adults I get energy from their excitement over how the portraits are working out. I get such a buzz from the experience and that can keep me going for hours, often editing the photos straight after the shoot for hours more.

Shoots for teenagers is something I've been wanting to focus on for some time. Its not something that I often get asked for though unfortunately. It tends to be parents of very young children who want to capture moments that are slipping through their fingers at lightening speed. Maybe its teenage moodiness that means these moments don't fe…

Burbage Girl Gets the Chop for Charity

This week I received the request for photographs of an event where this young lady would be cutting her hair to donate to the Little Princess Trust so that it can be made into wigs for children who've lost theirs due to cancer.

Not only has Ellie-Louise Daniels donated her hair but it was her wish to also raise enough money to pay to have the hair made into a wig which costs in the region of £350. Well she exceeded that by a long way bringing in a total so far of just over £1500.

This lovely and thoughtful little girl has been wanting to do this for some time but with a mother reluctant to see her daughter's gorgeous long hair cut short she had some convincing to do.  It wasn't until this past Christmas that her mother finally gave in. But it has taken this long to complete the task because Ellie-Louise had been given tickets to see Olly Murs and she just couldn't go to a his concert with short hair. Well on Thursday she went to the concert and on Saturday she had her…
